What are Open Graph tags?
Open Graph tags are meta tags in your HTML head that control how your page appears when shared in chats, social platforms, and link previews. They define the title, description, image, and URL that tools like Slack, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and iMessage use when someone pastes your link.
Why they matter at launch
When you share your startup in a community, on Product Hunt, or in a newsletter, the OG image and title are often the first things people see before they click. A missing OG image means your link appears as plain text in every chat thread. This checker catches those gaps so your launch post looks as polished as possible.
What is the right OG image size?
The recommended og:image size is 1200x630 pixels. This renders correctly across Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Slack.
Should og:title match the page title?
They can match, but og:title is optimized for sharing. Many sites use a slightly more compelling angle for social previews versus the SEO-focused browser title.
What is twitter:card?
The twitter:card tag controls how Twitter/X renders your link preview. summary_large_image is the most common value and shows a large image card.
Do OG tags affect SEO rankings?
Not directly. But they affect click-through rates when your content is shared, which can drive traffic and indirectly signal relevance to search engines.
